Peter Schwinn started Schwinn Hardware in 1932 as a workshop in Ober-Ramstadt, Germany making furniture handles and knobs. Today, it remains true to its original purpose, to make high quality furniture handles and knobs.
What does Schwinn Hardware have in common with Schwinn Bicycles?
Just the name. Ignaz Schwinn, a German who was born in 1860 in a town one hour southeast of Ober-Ramstadt, emigrated to the USA, and in 1895 founded Arnold, Schwinn & Company making bicycles in Chicago. Thirty-seven years later, Peter Schwinn started his furniture hardware company in Germany.
